- A Piping Plover rests in the sand at the end of the day on Okaloosa Island, FL. The Piping Plover is a beach cleaner, eating up insects and small crustaceans. These birds are deemed near threatened, but their population is increasing. The dunes of these areas are protected and if you see these birds on the beach, please give them some room.
